Report Mongolia 2013

Dear Friends,
the expedition to Mongolia was, as usual, divided into two stages:
a) in the STEPPE, on the border with Siberian Russia, in the north east of Mongolia, where I met the border police (about ten servicemen with their families), leaving first aid medicines at the infirmary.
I then went to the village of Dashbalbar where I visited the little hospital (donating 1500 euros to purchase a PORTABLE ULTRASOUND MACHINE), the primary school (with its new building!) and the high school and kindergarten (which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary). We also went to the CENTRE FOR THE ELDERLY.
I was accompanied by Dr. Altantsetseg and the interpreter, Luvsandorj Purevdolgor. We examined around 100 patients at the HOSPITAL, which we provided with ESSENTIAL MEDICINES, medical material, electronic blood-pressure monitoring devices, and some of my cartoon-illustrated health education books with photos of steppe-land medicinal plants.
A GER (A TYPE OF TENT USED BY NOMADS) WAS DONATED TO A TO A VERY POOR FAMILY.
We donated SPORTS MATERIALS and medals to the HIGH SCHOOL.
To celebrate the sixteenth year of my visits to the village, the school organized a children’s horse race during the open day held on 1st September!
In the city of Choibalsan, we donated food to the “Light Center” ORPHANAGE. We then had a meeting with Dr. Daarimaa, the doctor of the local PRISON, donating essential medicines for the infirmary and clothing for the only female prisoner awaiting trial (the other 66 prisoners are also awaiting trial).
b) IN THE CAPITAL ULAN BATOR
I examined around 100 patients at the TENT CITY OF TOLGOIT, providing treatment free of charge. I also examined patients of the SISTERS OF MOTHER TERESA of Calcutta’s Missionaries of Charge, in Ulan Bator and Darkhan, lying 230km from the capital. We distributed the latest copies of my book in Mongolian, in addition to awarding 4 BURSARIES to the best students of poor families and to the two best students at the music school.
We DONATED A GER (traditional Mongolian tent) to a destitute dwarf couple with three children, whose condition prevents them from finding work…
SINCE HYPERTENSION IS CURRENTLY THE MOST WIDESPREAD DISEASE (4 OUT OF 10 CITIZENS HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE), we also donated material for medications and electronic pressure-measuring devices to local colleagues.
Lastly we gave a PERSONAL COMPUTER to our colleagues at the Michid Undarga clinic.

Bonjour les amis,
L’expédition en Mongolie s’est déroulée, comme d’habitude, en deux temps :
1) DANS LA STEPPE, à la frontière avec la Russie sibérienne, au nord-est de la Mongolie; j’ai visité la police de frontière (une dizaine de militaires et leurs familles) et laissé dans l’infirmerie des médicaments de première nécessité;
Ensuite le village de Dashbalbar, avec son petit hôpital (auquel a été offert le montant de 1500 euros pour l’achat d’un ÉCHOGRAPHE PORTABLE), l’école primaire (nouvel édifice !), le collège et le Kindergarden (qui fête cette année le 50ème anniversaire de sa fondation) ET ENFIN LE CENTRE POUR PERSONNES ÂGÉES.
La doctoresse Altantsetseg et l’interprète Luvsandorj m’ont accompagné.
À l’hôpital environ 100 patients ont été visités et je leur ai distribué des MÉDICAMENTS ESSENTIELS, matériel médical, tensiomètres électroniques, quelques un de mes livres d’éducation sanitaire à bandes dessinées et avec les photos des plantes médicinales de la steppe.
UNE GER (TENTE UTILISÉE PAR LES NOMADES) A ÉTÉ DONNÉE À UNE FAMILLE TRÈS PAUVRE.
Nous avons donné MATÉRIEL SPORTIF et médailles au collège.
L’école a voulu fêter ma seizième année de visite dans leur village en organisant une course à cheval d’enfants, pour l’open day du premier septembre !
Dans le village de Choibalsan nous avons offert des aliments à l’ORPHELINAT “The Light Center” ensuite rencontre avec le médecin de la PRISON locale le Dr. Daarimaa et donation de médicaments essentiels pour l’infirmerie et vêtements à la seule femme emprisonnée qui est en attente de jugement (les autres sont 66 détenus eux aussi en attente de jugement).
2) DANS LA CAPITALE ULAN BATOR
J’ai visité environ 100 patients DANS LE RASSEMBLEMENT DE TENTES DE TOLGOIT, en les soignant gratuitement; j’ai aussi visité les patients des Missionnaires de la Charité, les SŒURS DE MÈRE THÉRÈSE de Calcutta à Ulan Bator et à Darkhan, à 230 km de la capitale; distribué les derniers exemplaires de mon livre, en langue mongole; nous avons distribué 4 bourses d’études aux meilleurs élèves provenant de familles pauvres et aux deux meilleurs élèves du conservatoire.
DONATION D’UNE GER (tente traditionnelle mongole) à un couple de nains, parents de 3 enfants, très pauvres car, à cause de leur maladie, n’arrivent pas à trouver du travail…
Donation de matériel de soin et tensiomètres aux confrères locaux car ACTUELLEMENT LA MALADIE LA PLUS COURANTE EST L’HYPERTENSION (4 HABITANTS SUR 10 SOUFFRENT D’HYPERTENSION).
Pour conclure, toujours aux confrères de la clinique Michid Undarga a été offert un ordinateur.
Je remercie tous ceux qui n’y participé à la réalisation de cette seizième expédition en Mongolie, qui s’est déroulée l’année du quarantième anniversaire de mon doctorat en médecine !
